11 marzo, 2008 / TOULOUSE, FRANCIA - Il Primo Emendamento e la libertà di espressione su Internet sono in pericolo in quanto il sito web internet Signs of the Times (SOTT.net) ha annunciato oggi che la sua fondatrice, Laura Knight-Jadczyk, residente in Francia, è stata accusata in una corte dell'Oregon da 'Higher Balance Institute' (HBI), posseduto da Eric Pepin e con sede in Oregon.
HBI commercializza prodotti metafisici e dichiara di vendere il programma "la meditazione del sesto senso più evoluta al mondo" e un prodotto dietetico, il "Magnuerol", che garantisce di fare del consumatore un "telepatico istantaneo". Pepin dichiara che gli utilizzatori della sua "pillola psichica" hanno provato che "l'uso del telefono wireless può causare disagio". Di conseguenza suggeriscono di "limitare l'utilizzo dei telefoni cellulari".
SOTT.net è un sito di notizie internazionali gestito da utenti, grazie ad editori volontari provenienti da tutto il mondo. Il Quantum Future Group, Inc.(QFG), una non-profit creata dal fisico-matematico Arkadiusz Jadczyk e Laura Knight-Jadczyk che sponsorizza ricercatori indipendenti impegnati a raccogliere dati storici e sociali per l'analisi di sistemi matematici, è inoltre nominato nella causa come imputato nonostante il fatto che il QFG non è possessore di SOTT.net, né ha una partecipazione di maggioranza nel sito.
HBI asserisce nella causa stilata da Bullivant Houser Bailey, PC, Portland, che gli operatori di SOTT.net "pubblicarono dichiarazioni false e diffamatorie" nei confronti di HBI e Eric Pepin sul Forum sito Web di SOTT. Pepin domanda approssimativamente 4,5 milioni di dollari per danni.
La causa origina dalle informazioni pubblicate sul forum di SOTT [1] dove partecipanti da ogni parte del globo scoprirono e ripubblicarono informazioni di pubblico dominio e archivi giornalistici che mostravano come Pepin si fosse recentemente esposto ad accuse di abuso sessuale in una corte dell'Oregon coinvolgenti un bambino e un ex-dipendente di HBI. A victory for Pepin, considering the international nature of this cause, therefore, would create a dangerous precedent in U.S. courts and will have serious implications for freedom of expression on the Internet and ultimately civil liberties everywhere. "
