During the winter, tens of millions of people contract the flu, a respiratory viral disease easily transmitted by air.
This year the peak of cases is expected between the months of January and February and will be the three and a half million to five million people in our country will have to deal with flu symptoms.
However it will be a flu season without special alarms.
Experts recommend measures to comply with hygiene and personal protective equipment, needed to prevent the spread of the influenza virus and the vaccine, especially for patients at risk of complications and without risk to persons engaged in particular social value.
This year the vaccine is effective against influenza A virus H1N1, the virus is seasonal account. The composition of the vaccine:
- A/California/7/2009 antigen similar to the strain (H1N1) strain of so-called "pandemic"
- similar to A/Perth/16/2009 antigen (H3N2);
- similar to the antigen B/Brisbane/60/2008 strain.
The offer of vaccine to the categories recommended is free and active part of the Regions and Autonomous Provinces.
Another recommendation: do not use antibiotics to treat influenza, since their use is not only unnecessary but also potentially harmful. Essi costituiscono comunque un presidio molto importante in caso di complicanze batteriche, che possono verificarsi nel corso della malattia, soprattutto in soggetti predisposti, ma la loro prescrizione va sempre riservata al medico, in grado di indicare dosi e tempi corretti di assunzione.
